I can’t work without a model. I won’t say I turn my back on nature ruthlessly in order to turn a study into a picture, arranging the colors, enlarging and simplifying; but in the matter of form I am too afraid of departing from the possible and the true. –Vincent van Gogh
A very special “Thank you” to the TARGET Corporation for the travel grant allowing us to visit the Cincinnati Museum of Art to see the Van Gogh exhibit entitled: Into the Undergrowth in January.
In this exhibition, which was presented only at the Cincinnati Art Museum, students explored original masterworks of iconic Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries as they viewed authentic impressionist masterworks. Students discovered the artist through his own words, extensively quoted from correspondence with his brother Theo. They explored narrative themes in Van Gogh’s work and compared/contrasted Van Gogh’s reactions to those of contemporary artists. Then, they explored their own reactions to technology innovations of today.
