This course in Digital Photography and Graphic Design is designed to develop your skills in pixel-based photographic design and printing. In this course, students will use the power of the digital camera to create, edit, print, post and share images electronically, using Adobe Photoshop on Apple computers. As a studio course, students will learn to grow in this new medium, try new ideas, learn design thinking processes, understand basic camera operations, studio lighting, photo editing skills, communicate using the language of photography, and expand their abilities to appreciate trends in historical and contemporary photographic art.

As your teacher, my goals for this course are for you to become proficient in:

  • using a digital camera to capture images and working with those images using Adobe Photoshop
  • digitally manipulating images including editing, cropping, saving, sizing, posting and printing
  • learning to maximize the quality and output of images captured digitally
  • appreciating the art of photography through the study of historic and contemporary photographers and trends
  • developing the habit of observing the visible world around you
  • understanding all the tools found in Adobe Photoshop, and how to manage image files: saving, opening, uploading, posting, etc., file size and print size, the use of scale
  • understanding copyright laws as they pertain to digital images
